Based on its description, I expected a coffee-table collection of spectacular big-wave photography accompanied by the photographer’s personal story. I purchased Pacific Quests because I had worked with Rob on personal watercraft photo shoots. I knew the book would be filled with exceptional images, but I did not expect to be pulled so deeply into surf culture. The closest comparison I can make is Dogtown and Z-Boys in coffee-table-book form: a candid visual chronicle that gives the reader an insider’s view of an influential board-sports culture.
